Carlos Murillo Almuzara

Carlos Murillo Almuzara, the fellow of ESR2, coming from Ejea de los Caballeros, Spain, started his scientific carrier at The University of Zaragoza (Spain) where he studied biotechnology. His B.Sc. project was based on the “Study of the cryopreservative effect of steroid hormones against cold-shock in ram spermatozoa”, gaining expertise in flow cytometry.

He completed an Inter-university Master’s degree on Drug Discovery at the University of Alcalá, CEU San Pablo University, and Complutense University of Madrid, Spain. During his M.Sc. project, he developed a novel strategy to study β-glycosidase inhibition by 19F NMR spectroscopy and its reactivation by transglycosidation mechanism.

Thereafter, he obtained a pre-doctoral fellowship to work in the group of Dr. Hana Cahová at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of Prague, Czech Republic where he analyzed the capping process in vivo in E. coli by LC-MS.

During ENDONANO program, the first part of his project will focus on developing a new fluorescence-based assay for the detection of LPS in complex matrices using nanometallic particles. The fellow will be in the group of Molecular Sensing at the Institute of Food Science (ISA-CNR) in Avellino, Italy having an expected secondment at the Catalan Institute of Nanotechnology (ICN2) in Barcelona, Spain in order to develop LPS- binding nanobeads . Second part will focus on the implementation of a prototype kit for a high sensitivity detection of LPS exploiting the dynamic behavior and optical anisotropy of magnetic nanobead assemblies. Research will take place at the company Blusense Diagnosis ApS in Copenhagen, Denmark.A secondment is expected at the company Diagnosticum zrt (DIAG) in Budapest.
